I am an industrial design student at the University of Oregon based out of Portland, Oregon. I've recently been spending my days as a coffee roaster and barista, both of which I love doing. Most of the projects I've worked on in the past I've specialized in 3D modeling or in ceramics, but I've also had experiences in random things like lost wax method metal casting and woodworking. I hope to work in UX/UI in the future or eventually in art direction. In my free time I like to let ideas that hit me snowball as far as I can, think out how they can play out in certain scenarios in the world, and then pitch them to my friends as if I'm on Shark Tank.

Hello! I'm Alex Tang.

Percept

About

When developing the Percept helmet for our Senior Studio, my partner Jess Wittrig and I decided to target the casual urban cyclist. Our focus was the daily commuter or the weekend warrior that wanted something sleek but not overly minimal. We based the overall shape off of mountain bike helmets we liked and sprinkled in design cues we liked from casual city helmets and vents from the rear ends of sports cars we enjoyed.

Objective

To develop from ideation to final prototype, a subtly sporty bike helmet for the urban commuter.

Role and Responsibilities

- Contributed throughout the process from ideation to final mock up

- Coordinated with the shop's schedule throughout the term to get through our process.

- Took the lead on clay model sculpting, 3D modeling, and finishing of our final prototype.

Kona Tiki Mug

About

During my internship with Tuxton I was tasked to develop a tiki mug from ideation to final production for our team that would ultimately go to market. The mug makes use of Tuxton's reactive glazes and create a unique color in deep ridges and brings an added layer of depth to the design.

Objective

To create "tiki" style cup for our client, Lazy Dog, that could also be sold direct to consumers via the Tuxton website or distribution avenues

Role and Responsibilities

- Researched the origin of tiki cups to create a design that was appealing and allowed space for branding if desired by clients

- Produced the design from sketch to 3D rendering all the way to technical drawing for production

- Worked closely with the department head to make sure designs were in line with the client's needs

- Communicated with our production team overseas to make sure dimensions and volume were translating in the final product and that the design would work well with our preexisting reactive glazes.
